The Role of the Sri Lanka Library Association in the Sri Lankan Library Sector

The Special Libraries Section of the Sri Lanka Library Association (SLLA) facilitated the participation of its representatives in the live radio programme Sara Prabhagira, broadcast on the Sinhala Commercial Service of the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) on 10 August 2026 from 8.00 a.m. to 9.00 a.m.

The programme featured a discussion on “The Role of the Sri Lanka Library Association in the Sri Lankan Library Sector,” highlighting SLLA’s contribution to the development and advancement of the library and information profession in Sri Lanka.

Mr. Sugath Gunathilaka and Ms. Shivanthi Weerasinghe participated as guest speakers, while Ms. Dinusha Wettasinghe served as the programme host.

The discussion provided a valuable platform to share information about SLLA’s role, activities, and professional contributions, while also raising public awareness of the importance of libraries and information services in Sri Lanka.

SLLA appreciates the opportunity provided by SLBC and the Sara Prabhagira programme to engage with the wider public and promote greater recognition of the library and information profession.
