The Public Library Group of the Sri Lanka Library Association (SLLA) successfully conducted a special training programme on “Theory and Practice of Library Classification” on 3 September 2026 at the Matugama Auditorium, bringing together public library professionals from across the Kalutara District for a valuable professional development initiative.
More than 70 public library professionals representing local government institutions in the district participated in the programme. The training was facilitated by Mr. Chandana Seneviratne, Retired Information Assistant of the National Library and Documentation Services Board (NLDSB), who served as the Resource Person and provided both theoretical instruction and practical guidance on library classification.
The event was graced by several distinguished guests, including:
- Mr. Kasun Munasinghe – Chairman, Matugama Pradeshiya Sabha
- Mr. Daminda Manamperi – Education Officer, Sri Lanka Library Association
- A Senior Community Development Officer representing the Office of the Assistant Commissioner of Local Government, Kalutara
- President of the Matugama Lions Club
- Several other distinguished invitees
Conducted from 8.30 a.m. to 1.00 p.m., the programme strengthened participants’ understanding of library classification through a combination of theoretical concepts and practical applications. The initiative contributed significantly to the professional development of public library staff and supports the continued enhancement of library services throughout the Kalutara District.
