DLIS 2026 Inauguration Ceremony Successfully Held

The Sri Lanka Library Association (SLLA) officially inaugurated the Diploma in Library and Information Science (DLIS) 2026 programme on 11 July 2026 at the Auditorium of the Colombo Public Library, marking the beginning of a new academic year for a fresh cohort of aspiring library and information professionals.

The inauguration ceremony brought together distinguished academics, SLLA officials, invited guests, and newly enrolled students in a celebration of learning, professional development, and the future of Library and Information Science in Sri Lanka.

Inspiring Keynote Address

The keynote address was delivered by Ms. Nadika Ratnabahu, Senior Lecturer, Department of Library and Information Science, University of Kelaniya. Her presentation explored contemporary developments in Library and Information Science, emphasizing professional ethics, knowledge management, digital transformation, and the expanding career opportunities available to information professionals. Her inspiring message encouraged students to embrace innovation, continuous learning, and professional excellence throughout their academic journey.

Distinguished Guests

The ceremony was graced by several distinguished members of the Sri Lanka Library Association, including:

The event was also attended by SLLA staff members, invited guests, and the newly registered DLIS 2026 students.

Student Orientation Programme

Following the inauguration, students participated in a comprehensive orientation programme designed to familiarize them with the academic and administrative aspects of the diploma. The sessions covered:

  • Programme objectives and expected learning outcomes
  • Curriculum structure and course requirements
  • Teaching, learning, and assessment methods
  • Examination regulations and academic policies
  • Administrative procedures and student support services
  • Professional ethics, leadership, discipline, and lifelong learning

The orientation provided students with a clear understanding of the programme while reinforcing the values and responsibilities expected of future library and information professionals.
