NACLIS 2017 Updates.....

13th National Conference on Library & Information Studies (NACLIS) 2017 was held at Grand Oriental Hotel, Colombo on 29th June 2017 on the theme of " Social Impact of Librarianship: Scholarship towards Sustainable Development Goals" . The conference began with the council members accompanying the Chief Guest Prof.A.Ariyadurai, Vice Chancellor, Open University, Sri Lanka and the Keynote Speaker Prof.Eduardo da Silva Alentejo, Dean of Library Science School, UNIRIO, Brazil  in procession.

NACLIS 2016 Updates.....

12th National Conference on Library & Information Studies (NACLIS) 2016 was held at Sri Lanka Foundation Institute, Colombo on 22nd June 2016 on the theme of "Marching towards excellence: Contributions of LIS professionals in building a better society" .  NACLIS is an annual event aiming at promoting professional and academic experiences among librarians and information professionals in Sri Lanka

The National Conference on Library and Information Science (NACLIS) 2011 was held on 28th June 2011at the Hotel Galadari, Colombo. The theme of the 8th conference was ‘Harnessing Information for Socio-economic Development’.  Prof. S.S. Colombage, Prof. Uditha Liyanage and Dr. W K Hirimburegama participated at the dialogue session, which was chaired by Mr Upali Amarasiri, President, Sri Lanka Library Association. Technical papers were presented by Mr R D Ananda Tissa, Dr Pradeepa Wijetunge, Ms Dharshini Wijesinghe, Ms Nanda Wanasundara, Dr Anusha Wijayaratne, Dr Wathmanel Seneviratne and Ms Sujeewa Rathnayake. Mr K N Deerasinghe represented the Governor Central Bank  of Sri Lanka as the Chief Guest of the inauguration. The proceedings of the conference edited by Ms Shivanthi Weerasinghe and Dr Wathmanel Seneviratne  was presented to the Chief Guest.

10th Annual Conference on Library & Information Science (NACLIS) organised by SLLA was held on 27th June 2013 at Sri Sambuddhaloka Jayanthi Mandiraya at Colombo under the theme,“New Technology, New Trends, New Ideas; Modifying the Library with the User in Mind'. NACLIS is the event in the LIS field to share research experiences, to generate new ideas and to capture the trends in modern librarianship.

N U Yapa Memorial Oration was held on 23rd Nov. 2011 at the OPA Auditorium, Stanley Wijesundera Mawata, Colombo 7. The event began with the academic procession by past presidents of the association and present council members who accompanied the orator. It was followed by garlanding Mr.Yapa's photograph by his beloved wife, and the President - SLLA.

 After a short speech by the President Mr. Amarasiri, Prof Kapila Dahanayake, Professor Emeritus, University of Peradeniya delivered the oration. The topic of his address was Disaster Management in Sri Lanka: the need for information dissemination.

Mr. Neil Upali Yapa died on 28 September 2009 after a brief illness. His death at age 65 was untimely and a severe loss to his family, to the professions of information science and librarianship, the SLLA, and to his friends.

SLLA council and membership hosted this first memorial oration with appreciation and gratitude towards the value of his work, dedication, and commitment.
