To act as the pivotal professional body for library,documentation and information services in the country, byproviding library education programmes, setting professionalstandards, fostering cooperation between all individuals andorganizations interested in the welfare of libraries, acting asthe forum for the exchange of ideas among members of theassociation, safeguarding and promoting the rights, privilegesand status of librarians and information scientists and playinga leadership role in chartering the course of future libraryneeds in the country.
The Sri Lanka Library Association operates under its legal status through the Sri Lanka Library Association (Incorporation) Law No. 20 of 1974, as amended by the Sri Lanka Library Association Act No. 7 of 2004, together with its Rules, which provide the legal framework for its governance, membership, and operations.
The Strategic Planning and Strategic Directions Committee (SPSDC) of SLLA has submitted the Strategic Plan for 2016-2022 with the necessary strategic directions.
