The University of Cape Town Library Fire: Statement of Support And Solidarity From the SLLA

Sri Lanka Library Association (SLLA) was shocked to hear the loss of irreplaceable cultural heritage material by the University of Cape Town library, by wildfires spread on 18th April 2021.

We would like to express our deepest sympathy for the loss suffered by the University of Cape Town, South Africa and the people of the country. We stand in solidarity and support of the UCT community in this difficult moment. The loss of resources housed in the library will be felt by scholars around the world.

UCT library houses more than 1300 discrete archival collections of special significance. The damage from the fire has not yet been estimated, according to the sources.
